Construction Lunch

Construction Lunch

Taking time to reflect after yesterday’s Construction Lunch, it wasn’t just the conversations I was paying attention to – it was the habits of those who make networking look so natural.

Here’s what I noticed they all showed:

  • Authenticity – representing their business while showing up as themselves (no sales pitches in sight)
  • Storytelling – sharing personal stories in a professional way, creating human connection
  • Balance – curiosity and listening – alongside business talk / Generosity / helping each other with introductions, knowledge-sharing, and spotting opportunities / Knowledge / knowing the industry, their business, sector, clients, projects and people – so conversations had real depth
  • Positivity – bringing an encouraging, supportive energy that makes others feel welcome
  • Adaptability – reading the room and flexing style depending on who they are talking with and how well they know them.

These habits show networking is about building trust and relationships over time.

And the good news? They’re teachable. By making these behaviours visible, we can help those who don’t see themselves as “naturals” to learn, practise, and grow their confidence.

What would you add? What habits do you see in great networkers?
